Religious Education
Subject leaders: Mrs White and Mrs Keegan
Religious Education at Dubmire aims to enrich the children’s experiences and understanding of World Faiths. We allow all children to develop a strong understanding of the faiths represented in the local area, wider community, Britain and the world.
R.E. is essential in supporting the pupils’ development of mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith. Therefore, we ensure R.E. is taught in a sensitive, as well as factual, manner to prepare the pupils for life in modern Britain.
As part of Sunderland Local Authority, we follow the Sunderland Agreed Syllabus which we supplement with learning to support our children in their local area. We encourage the children to use specialist vocabulary which allows the children to articulate their learning in an appropriate manner. In KS2, children are given the opportunity to explore moral and ethical issues from a faith perspective as well as their own. This is an important part of the curriculum as it supports the children’s spiritual, moral, cultural and social development.
